How does Lobuche East compare with Island Peak?

It is steeper and more exposed, with mixed rock and ice and a narrow summit ridge, but shorter in total height gain from High Camp and with better views of Everest. Island Peak suits a first summit; Lobuche East suits a climber who wants something harder.

Do I need previous climbing experience?

Accepted Answer

Strong fitness and good comfort on steep ground matter more than a list of climbs. If you have never used crampons, spend the skills session at Base Camp seriously and tell your guide so the pace is set for you.

Is Everest Base Camp included?

Accepted Answer

The route passes the Lobuche trail but does not include Everest Base Camp. You can add the 2-day Gorak Shep and Base Camp walk as an option; ask us when you book and we will adjust the schedule.

Question 4

What if there is too much snow?

Accepted Answer

One spare day is built in. If both the planned day and the spare day are unsafe the guides will not climb; the trek and camp services are still delivered.

Question 5

How cold is the summit?

Accepted Answer

Expect −15 °C to −20 °C and wind at the summit ridge. A proper down jacket, insulated mittens and goggles are essential; all can be hired in Kathmandu.
