How fit do I need to be for the Everest Three Pass Trek?

You should be able to walk 6–8 hours a day with a light day pack over consecutive days, including three passes above 5,300 m. Hill walking, stair climbing and regular cardio training for three to four months before you go will help. Previous trekking experience above 4,000 m is strongly recommended.

The itinerary climbs gradually and includes acclimatisation days at Namche (3,440 m) and above Thame (4,960 m) before Renjo La. Sleeping gains above 3,000 m are kept close to 500 m per day, and you descend after each pass. Tell your guide immediately about headache, nausea, dizziness or poor sleep — do not push on.

What are the teahouses like on the Three Pass route?

They are basic but comfortable: twin rooms with shared bathrooms, a warm dining room and a menu of dal bhat, noodles, potatoes, eggs and Tibetan bread. Above 4,500 m the lodges are simpler, with limited menus and cold nights. Bring a warm sleeping bag and cash, as there are no ATMs beyond Namche.

Yes, most teahouses offer charging and wifi for a fee, but the service is slow and expensive above Namche. Bring a power bank and a spare battery for your phone. Expect to pay per device or per hour in the higher villages.
