How fit do I need to be for the Nar Phu Valley Trek?

You should be able to walk 6–7 hours a day with a light day pack over several consecutive days, including one long pass day. Hill walking, stair climbing and regular cardio training for two to three months before you go will help. If you have trekked in Nepal before, you are in a good position.

The itinerary climbs gradually and includes an exploration day at Phu (4,080 m) before you continue. Sleeping altitude gains above 3,000 m are kept close to 500 m per day, and the Kang La (5,240 m) is crossed from Nar (4,110 m) with a descent the same day. Tell your guide immediately about headache, nausea or poor sleep, and never push on alone.

What are the teahouses like in Nar and Phu?

They are much simpler than on the main Annapurna Circuit: basic twin rooms, shared bathrooms, cold nights and a limited menu of dal bhat, noodles, Tibetan bread and butter tea. Bring a warm sleeping bag and cash, as there are no ATMs or card payments beyond Besisahar.

Charging is available in some lodges for a small fee, usually from solar panels, and is unreliable at Phu and Nar. Wifi is rare and slow; buy a local SIM in Kathmandu and treat coverage as patchy. Carry a power bank and spare batteries for your head torch.

Spring can still leave snow on the pass, so allow a buffer day.
